If someone finds your pet on the street, it will be taken to a veterinarian or to an institution where there is a scanner to read the transponder (microchip) number. By entering this number into the animal registration database, the vet or anyone else can instantly find the owner and contact him/her.
It is impossible to track a pet in real time with a microchip. A microchip is not a GPS tracker.
